Weather with Don Thompson

Good Saturday morning to you all. A beautiful day is in store for you. Sunny skies with highs in the upper 70's with some places reaching 80 degrees with the same kind of the day on Sunday. The first day of Fall on Monday will feature sunny skies with a high of 76 degrees. The next shot of a shower comes with a cold front on Monday night. High pressure returns and gives you beautiful weather the remaining of next week. While it is sunny today, today marks a day when we lost life across Long Island and New England as the 1938 Hurricane moved across the area with the center crossing around Bellport and then thru New England. Over 600 people loss their life from Long Island thru New England. One of the biggest reasons for that is back then we did not have the technology we have now so no one knew this storm was coming. Winds were sustained at over 110 mph with wind gusts much higher then that. Total destruction to the area. So while we enjoy a beautiful weekend always remember what did happen in 1938. If it happened once it will happen again. It is not a matter of if but when. You should always have a plan in place in case you are threatened by a hurricane Bill and I will always keep you covered on what is happening in the tropics. Have a great and safe day and weekend
